Car Wash Meditations
Digital Video – 2006
Car washing is a personal statement in many minority communities. In the gritty urban landscape a clean car represents not only care for a prized possession, but a sacred cleaning of your “ride”. Often a sparkling vehicle offers a contrast to the intense plight that many have come to accept. Car Wash Meditations is a soliloquy. My internal monologue is the backdrop of a display of multi-colored soapsuds and seemingly choreographed brush rhythms. The washing of a car becomes a metaphor of the maintenance of the artist’s shell, the exterior that is visible for all to see.
